Holistic Nutrition
Holistic Nutrition
The importance of good nutrition is evident today as it was in our ancestor’s time.
Hippocrates said, "Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food."
Today, good nutrition is more important than ever. At least 4 of the 10 leading causes of death in Canada — heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes — are directly related to the way we eat; nutrition in our daily diet is also implicated in many other conditions. It is clear that eating the wrong food can be deadly; therefore eating right can be the cornerstones ofoptimal health.
Of course, food alone isn't the key to a longer and healthier life. Good nutrition should be part of an overall healthy lifestyle, which also includes regular exercise, not smoking or drinking alcohol excessively, stress management and limiting exposure to environmental hazards.
Also no matter how well you eat, genes can play a part in your risk for certain health problems. However, it is best not tounderestimate the influence of how and what you eat and think.
For example, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) can begin in early childhood, but the process can be halted — even reversed — ifhealthy changes indiet and lifestyle are made.
The gradual bone thinning that results in osteoporosis may be slowed if the right amount of calcium, magnesium and Vitamin D levels are maintained along with participation in exercise that also includes weight-bearing exercise.
One could be genetically predisposed to diabetes, but if bodyweight is within a healthy range, a healthy diet is followed with regular exercise, plus a positive attitude, the illness may never strike.
The keys to good nutrition are balance, variety and moderation.
To stay healthy, your body needs the right balance of carbohydrates, fats, and protein — the three main components of nutrition.
You may also need supplemental vitamins, minerals and other substances from a variety of food. While some foods are better than others, no single food or food group has all the essential nutrients — as a result, eating a variety of different foods becomes essential.
Eating in moderation means eating neither too much nor too little of any specific food or nutrient. Too much of the wrong food can result in excess weight and even too much of certain nutrients, while eating too little can lead to numerous nutrient deficiencies, low body mass and even malnutrition. HeartMath Solution for Stress and more..
We rush from place to place to keep up with obligations at home, school, work and socially. Life keeps moving faster and faster.
It’s a lot and it is exhausting! While energy drops and resistance are being drained, the stress level is going up. What is experienced is anxiety, irritability, muscle tension, sleeplessness, depression or other serious problems.
As a HeartMath Practitioner using HeartMath tools, I can help you understand the toll stress can be taking on your physical, mental and emotional well being. Do you want more energy and resiliency? Do you want to feel better mentally, physically and emotionally more often? HeartMath techniques can help.
Researching Stress
HeartMath understands stress because they’ve researched it in depth – for more than 23 years. While many researchers today hold that it is our perception of events, not the actual events themselves that cause most of our stress, HeartMath goes further. Their studies show that it is our emotional responses to our perceptions of events that cause much of our unhealthy stress levels.
With minimal time, I can help you understand your own stress and teach you some simple and effective ways to reduce stress and increase energy and resilience and renew the joy in your life.
Coherence is an important state you should know about. Raising coherence helps you feel, think and sleep better, do better at work and school and improve communication skills. Learn how your heart, emotions, stress and coherence all relate and how your heart is as smart as your brain and affects almost everything you do.
The above charts are displayed on the HeartMath Biofeedback device that will help us to asses your state of Stress vs Positive Emotion.
A HeartMath Suggestion:
Breathe "appreciation" as you start and end your day. It’s a wonderful way to flow through all your daily activities — and sleep through the night.
How much will your life improve when you learn to control your stress? A lot, according to the HeartMath science of the last several decades.

Hypnosis
Hypnosis is used in a variety of settings, from emergency rooms to dental offices to outpatient clinics. Clinical studies suggest that hypnosis may improve immune function, increase relaxation, decrease stress, and ease pain and feelings of anxiety.
Hypnotherapy can reduce the fear and anxiety that some may feel before medical or dental procedures. For example, studies show that dental patients who underwent hypnosis had a significantly higher threshold for pain than those who were not hypnotized. Hypnosis may also improve recovery time and reduce anxiety and pain following surgery. Clinical trials on burn patients suggest that hypnosis decreases pain (enough to replace pain medication in some cases) and speeds healing. Other studies show the use of hypnosis resulting in decreased the use of pain medication, higher pain thresholds, shorter hospital stays, less surgical intervention, fewer complications, and a more satisfying labor and birth experience.
Generally, clinical studies show that hypnosis may reduce the need for medication, improve mental and physical health before an operation, and reduce the time it takes to recover.
Hypnotherapy has also been used in dental offices to control gagging, reduce pain, anxiety and bleeding.
A hypnotherapist can also teach you self regulation skills. For instance, with arthritis you can learn how to turn down pain like the volume on a radio. Hypnotherapy can also be used to help manage chronic illness and smoking addictions. Self hypnosis can enhance a better sense of control, which is often lacking when someone is dealing with a chronic illness. It is also very helpful for general anxiety and numerous phobias.
Each session lasts about an hour, and most start to see results within 4 to 8 sessions. Your progress will be monitored and your response can range from subtle to very noticeable and can occur slowly or rapidly. Overall, changes will progress at the rate that is right for you. Children (aged 9 to 12) often respond quickly and may have results within only 1 or 2 visits.
Intuitive Reiki
Intuitive Reiki
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit, thereby creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been helpful in virtually everyone and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from Universal Life Force. Many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their spiritual self rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.
While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.
Their purpose is to help people realize that healing the spirit by consciously deciding to improve oneself is a necessary part of the Reiki healing experience. In order for the Reiki healing energies to have lasting results, the client must accept responsibility for her or his healing and take an active part in it. Therefore, the Usui system of Reiki is more than the use of the Reiki energy. It must also include an active commitment to self awareness and growth in order for it to be of optimal benefit.

The Healing Art of Reflexology
The Healing Art of Reflexology
Reflexology is the application of gentle pressure to specific zones or areas on the feet, hands or head. It is based on the zone theory and understands the terms “reflex” to mean “reflection” of the organs and body parts of the body like the eyes, nose and ears. Reflexology concerns itself with zones and the fixed meridian points as also used in shiatsu and in acupuncture.
The ancient healing art of Reflexology has been known to man for many thousands of years. The early Indian, Chinese and Egyptian peoples first practiced it. In 1913 Dr. William Fitzgerald, an American ear, nose and throat surgeon, introduced this therapy to the West. He noted that pressure on specific parts of the body could have an anaesthetizing effect on a related area. Developing this theory, he divided the body into ten equal and vertical zone son one part of a zone could affect everything else within that zone. Thus, reflex areas on the feet and hands are linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone.
In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham, a therapist, further developed and refined the zone therapy into what is known as foot and hand reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot mirrors congestion or tension in a corresponding part of the-body. Thus when you treat the big toes there is a related effect in the head, and treating the whole foot can have a relaxing effect on the whole body.
The body has the ability to heal itself. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, it is in a state of “imbalance” and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology is used to restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium and encourage healing.
During a Reflexology session, the hands are used to apply gentle pressure to the feet, hands or head. For each person the application and the effect of the therapy is unique. Sensitive, trained hands can detect imbalances in the feet, and by working on these points the body's blockages can be released and the free flow of energy throughout the whole body is restored.. Tensions are eased, stress is reduced while improving circulation and elimination of toxins is encouraged. This gentle therapy allows thebody to heal itself at its own pace, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse.
Since Reflexology treats the whole person, not the symptoms of disease, most people benefit from treatment. The therapy brings relief to a wide range of acute and chronic symptoms, and is suitable for all ages.
Once your body is in-tune, it is wise to have regular treatments in order to help maintain health and well-being. An increasing number of people are experiencing tremendous benefits and are using this safe, natural therapy as a way of relaxing, rejuvenating, balancing and harmonizing the body.
On your first visit there is a preliminary assessment to discuss and determine any areas of concern. The Reflexology treatment begins soon after, the treatment may include your feet, or hands and/ or head, if necessary, while noting various areas that may require further attention. You may experience tingling in different areas, but this is fleeting, and may be an indication of congestion or imbalance in a corresponding part of the body. For the most part, the sensation is pleasant and soothing. Reflexology will relax you while at the same time stimulating the body’s own healing mechanisms.
Usually a treatment session lasts for one hour. A course of treatment varies in length depending on your body needs. This can determined within the first couple of sessions.
After the first or second treatment your body will respond in very definite ways; you may experience a feeling of well-being, relaxation and serene calm or you may feel revitalized and full of energy. Either way, it reflects how and the unique way your body is responding to treatment. This will provide vital information about your body and your specific needs.

The Art & Science of Iridology
The Art & Science of Iridology
Iridology is the science of studying the iris of the eye to determine acute, sub‑acute, chronic and degenerative stages in affected organs of your body. Through Iridology your whole body is mapped out for the iridologist to discover various causes of concern.
The iris (the colored part of the eye) is an extension of the brain containing many thousands of nerve endings, microscopic blood vessels, muscle and connective tissue. Every organ is connected to the iris via the nervous system. Nerve fibers receive their impulses by way of the optic nerve, optic thalami and the spinal cord.
Iridology is a complete form of health analysis revealing hereditary tendencies, acquired weakness as well as identifying the condition of each and every organ in the body. In this way, it is possible to deal with the cause of health problems rather than merely treating the symptoms.
The eyes are not only the mirrors of the soul, but also of the body.
The ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Chinese had understood the importance of the eye in order to examine the health of the body.
It is possible, with an analysis or "reading" of the iris to discover the weak parts of your body, latent tendencies, potential crises, vitality, the condition of the organs and many other pathologies in progress.
An Iridology reading is quick, simple, painless, and without radiation. It enables the practitioner to discover any constitutional weakness long before its physical affects.
Iridology is a tool to help determine the nutritional needs of your body.
It is a starting point and assessment tool for a complete health program.
